American Travelnotes 2/7 - Boston

Publié le par Romain

I am shipping up to Boston, ah ah ah !!

Ok ok, no boats available, so i took Amtrack ... and here i am, New England!
Boston is a really cute city, mainly built with red bricks. The city is modern, and i spend a couple of hours in the Financial district and in the huge Common park (the oldest park in USA).

The bostonians made a 4 km walk following the historical places of the American Independence War events: the 'Freedom trail'. Starting from the park, i head to the cemetary where are buried famous 'Tories' and 'Patriots', like Benjamin Franklin. History history ...
I walk then to Quincy market and Faneuil Hall, where the debates about the uprisal against the British colonial authorities were held.

I continue towards the wharfs and Little Italy, to the habour. The place is very nice (i don't know the price of the houses near the water, but that should't be cheap!!) and enjoyable. The Freedom Trail continues across the bridge, and i continue to walk ...

One thing really great in USA is the organisation of the museums. It is really great to visit, and often free. I visit the USS Constitution, one of the oldest american warship (launched in 1797, i think), nicknamed 'old ironside'. Next to the boat, i visit also the USS Cassin; this warship participated to the WWII, and survived several Kamikaze attacks near Japan. In fact, the boat is not that big, and I could imagine that the space available for the crew was indeed quite small.

The day is already over, and i have to come back ... a large quantity of beers drunk in New Haven with Aussies helps to forget the tiredness :)
